Writer: Pearl Jinjoo HwangPearl Jinjoo Hwang

Live sports games are always killer content for many TV subscribers to stay on the Pay TV service. Sports lovers’ craving for live games is always strong, and the international baseball fans first got their taste of KBO baseball in 2020 when the U.S. cable giant ESPN broadcast games with the start of the Major League Baseball season on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s 2025 now, and we are ready for the global FAST TV service for live sports.

So it’s Live!

Because it’s a live event, there are several points to stream the game globally. The first mission is latency. It’s common to have latency issues due to the various service environments, mainly the network. So it’s more complicated in the case of global live under the complexity of the network path to reach global audiences. So CASTIS’ CDN controller picks the most reliable and fastest way by checking multiple CDNs we integrate with. We also consider the economic way to deliver the service, since the service delivery is the most expensive part of the OPEX.

AI technology is enhancing global service!

Even if it’s delivered on time, there are more barriers on lingual, cultural, and legal issues in the service areas. For the language, AI can help in translation and interpretation. In real-time, the game is dubbed by the target language in a natural manner for better entertainment. And it can detect the best spot on the live streaming by using the technology called “shot boundary detection” for seamless ad insertion. AI also saves network traffic by minimizing the data volume of the contents via machine learning before global distribution. Or the video can be upscaled for a better viewing experience in the edge areas. In particular areas, there are prohibited images in the video (for example, sports gambling websites), and our AI solution can blur and even replace the image in real-time.

Not just live sports; it could be more.

It started with live sports on the FAST TV service, and it will expand wider, especially for the K-pop industry. There are many K-pop concerts desired by global fans but it’s always limited for the time and the space. The industry already launched online concerts on the streaming platform. The service has unlimited potential combined with AI technologies and commercial features. We can buy limited player cards and jerseys while we are watching live games on FAST TV soon.
